Crafted to meet the needs of a young family that moved to this home from an urban apartment the residence was designed to be a relaxing family-friendly interior with an open and cheerful ambiance. Working on a tight budget the architects turned to materials that usher in plenty of textural beauty even while keeping the costs down to a bare minimum.
Bringing in plenty of natural light and giving the old home a brand new lease on life the lightweight extension does its very best to blend in with the existing brick façade even while showcasing elegant contrast. With the house being revamped even the rear garden and alfresco space were altered and given a fresh perspective with many of the indigenous ferns being carefully relocated and donated to Belgrave Square.
The lavish home was specifically crafted to meet the demands of a modern family with two kids and it is the lower level that contains the open sunken living area along with other social zones the kitchen and the dining area. But it is the top floor that draws your attention with its 24-meter-long corridor that connects the parents’ wing on the east side of the house with the kids’ wing on the west along with the balconies on both ends and the social zone in between.
While the public spaces seem far more transitional the bedroom and bathrooms completely embrace cool contemporary style with minimal décor and a white and gray color scheme. Beautiful blue accents a floating wooden vanity in the bathroom and a shower area with penny tiles add visual contrast even as cleverly placed artwork and wall murals in the kids’ room usher in a hint of bright color.
Not only does the existing annex seem like an organic extension of the large cabin structure but the exterior of the holiday home can also withstand the brunt of gusty winds that are par for the course here. A curved path leads to the private entrance and the interior of the home is simple minimal and Scandinavian in style.
