Designed by Pardini Hall is a beautiful traditional London terrace home that was in need of a simple yet efficient modern extension. Taking into account both the restrictions that surround revamping such homes and the space available both the architects and the homeowners felt that a rear extension was the best possible option.
While the public spaces seem far more transitional the bedroom and bathrooms completely embrace cool contemporary style with minimal décor and a white and gray color scheme. Beautiful blue accents a floating wooden vanity in the bathroom and a shower area with penny tiles add visual contrast even as cleverly placed artwork and wall murals in the kids’ room usher in a hint of bright color.
The open plan living area is filled with a bright yellow couch that provides an otherwise neutral space with plenty of color while Darth Vader masks throw pillows and other action figures from the Star Wars universe instantly reveal the theme of the room. The two central pieces of this dramatic home grace the dining space that sits next to the living area with a TIE Fighter-inspired dining table and the bright red Darth Maul double-bladed lightsaber.
But that is where the similarities end as the new house was crafted using revolutionary developed by ETH Zurich which can be filled with different materials to change the level of insulation! The hollow wooden blocks are not the only planet-friendly feature here and you can also see reclaimed wood and other materials from the old house being reused to cut down on both wastage and construction costs.
A striking open-tread glass and steel staircase replaces the existing stairway and leads to the upper ground level that holds a relaxing living space a banquette dining area and a kitchen with a glittering bronze-tiled backsplash. It is the top floor that houses the luxurious master suite where the bedroom and bathroom become one visually even as two dashing bronze mirrors above the floating vanity steal the spotlight.
